PARADE
Book by Alfred Uhry

Music and Lyrics by Jason Robert Brown

Parade is a play based on the true story of Leo Frank, a Brooklyn-born Jewish man living in Atlanta in 1913, and his subsequent trial for murder, his conviction, the commutation of his sentence – and then his lynching at the hands of an anti-Semitic mob. In both this story and in contemporary America, where the gap between liberalism and conservatism seems to be growing daily, we hear general words like “good,” “bad,” “right,” “left,” being used to describe people with opposing points of view. Instead of resorting to these judgment words, we should be analyzing the many contrasting perspectives, and asking specific questions in an attempt to gain a more solid understanding of each one.
